GTA 6 Reportedly Causing Publishers to Avoid Release Date Clash

The release date for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 has yet to be announced by Rockstar Games but it seems like other publishers are taking active steps to avoid any potential release date clash with their own games. That’s according to a new report which claims that publishers aren’t nailing down release dates next year to avoid a collision with the launch of GTA 6.

According to sources close to Bloomberg, rival game publishers are choosing to wait as long as possible before committing to release dates for its upcoming titles, mainly to avoid a clash with the launch of GTA 6. After all, it’s arguably the most anticipated video game release of all time, coming off the highly successful and lucrative GTA V which sold 205 million units to date, making it the highest-selling AAA game in history. Any game daring enough to release around the same time that GTA 6 releases will probably have a tough time standing out or making sales.

Despite GTA 6 not nailing down a concrete release date yet – and no second trailer in sight – it’s still hot on people’s lists as the most anticipated release of 2025. Rockstar Games already made waves when it dropped the first trailer for the game last December, which currently holds the world record for most views on a video game trailer on YouTube (225 million views and counting).

In other news, publisher Take-Two Interactive says it’s not really worried about GTA 6’s performance on Xbox Series S. “Look, we support the platforms where the consumers are for as long as they’re there, and we find a way to support platforms despite different levels of tech,” said CEO Strauss Zelnick at the time. “Our labels are really good at that. I’m not really worried. If one platform diminishes in value, there’s always another one. So we’re seeing great growth in PC right now, for example.”
