GTA 6 Reportedly Set to Launch in 2025 and Feature Ever-Evolving Map

While Rockstar has been riding the GTA V wave for three console generations now, the studio actually plans on releasing a sequel. It just won’t arrive as soon as fans expect. According to Tom Henderson, who is a reliable Battlefield leaker, GTA 6 is currently in development at Rockstar and targeting a 2025 release.

Henderson claims that GTA 6 is indeed set in a modern-day version of Vice City. This counters the previous rumours that the game was based in the 1980s. He also says that Rockstar went with a modern setting to ensure that the development team has enough freedom as possible when creating content for GTA Online.

A big feature in GTA 6 is an ever-evolving map that will change over time. Henderson compares this map to Fortnite that regularly gets overhauled when the season changes. Perhaps the GTA 6 map might change to a 1980s setting and back again? This would then back up the previous rumours.

GTA 6 is also going to revolve around multiple playable characters. One of which is a female character for the first time too. It is unclear how these characters will connect in the game storywise.

Rockstar has also reportedly taken its time developing GTA 6 for two main reasons. The first one being the employee’s wellbeing during the covid-19 pandemic. The developer has emphasised the safety of its developers making sure there is no crunch at the company while the staff work at home. Rockstar faced some nasty backlash during the launch of Red Dead Redemption II when reports claimed staff were extremely overworked during the development process.

Another reason for the delay is thanks to the release plans for GTA 6. Rockstar reportedly wants to launch the game on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, they are waiting for the consoles to sell more before doing so. The developer also wants to maximise the revenue stream on GTA V and GTA Online before moving over to a new game. This is apparent in its plans to launch the game again on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This marks the third console release for the title.

Keep in mind that while Tom Henderson is a reliable leaker, you should take this with a pinch of salt for now. He also says that Rockstar won’t announce GTA 6 until right before the game is set to launch so don’t expect any details until 2025.
