Publisher Take-Two Interactive says Grand Theft Auto 6, the highly anticipated next entry in the GTA series from Rockstar Games, is still on track to release this year. Since the reveal trailer’s debut in December 2023, there have been whispers about the game possibly being delayed or pushed into 2026 due to a lack of official news or a second trailer. However, Take-Two says GTA 6 will still release in fall 2025, sticking to its original planned release schedule.
Rockstar Games parent company and publisher Take-Two Interactive stated during a recent investor presentation discussing its Q3 earnings for the financial year 2025 that it has no plans to delay GTA 6, confirming that the game is still “launching Fall of Calendar 2025.” Take-Two added that it also intends to release Borderlands 4 later this year.
“We forecast that Calendar Year 2025 will be an inflection point for Take-Two,” wrote the company in a statement. “From the groundbreaking release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in the Fall, to the unmatched pipeline that 2K is set to deliver, including Civilization 7 on February 11, Mafia: The Old Country in the Summer, and Borderlands 4.”
Back in December last year, sources close to Bloomberg told the media outlet that publishers in the industry were intentionally avoiding nailing down release dates for their games this year in order to avoid a potential clash with GTA 6. After all, no AAA game would want to release on the same day or week as Rockstar’s juggernaut and risk potentially losing out on sales and exposure. Unfortunately, publishers are still holding onto threads as a release date for GTA 6 hasn’t been announced yet.
In other news, a new rumour suggests that GTA Online might be sold separately from GTA 6. The online multiplayer mode was previously bundled with GTA V, though it looks like buyers will now have more options for differently priced editions that include or exclude the online mode, if that’s not your flavour.
GTA 6 is on track to release in fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
