Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive have yet to set a release date for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, let alone confirm whether or not players can expect certain content staples to reappear. A new report claims that GTA Online, something that players could access by simply purchasing GTA V, will apparently be sold separately from GTA 6 when it launches.
According to leaker Tez2, Rockstar Games will split GTA 6 into two editions at launch: one will include the complete single-player experience with online multiplayer while the other will only include online multiplayer. Comparisons have been drawn to Red Dead Redemption 2, which also featured a separate online mode from the base game’s campaign. It’s unclear if this will drastically affect the price of GTA 6 at launch.
Analysts speculate that Take-Two could sell GTA 6 for $80 or $100 – with a bundle deal like this, there’s now justification for raising the price, even if it was once a baked-in mode in the previous game which sold for $60 and included GTA Online in the deal.
.”T2 could benefit by pricing the online standalone lower, making it accessible for those who can’t afford the $70 or $80 price,” Tez2 speculates. “Eventually, those players will upgrade to access the story mode, so that’s a win-win for them. This also opens an opportunity, some players may be eager to access the story mode but can’t afford the upgrade price too.”
“The win for us is if the online standalone is priced as low as it can be and factored into the total cost, the game could be sold at the standard $70 instead of a higher price,” Tez2 adds, believing that there’s a chance Take-Two might not break the current $70 industry standard. We’ll just have to wait and see what the pricing model will look like. After all, GTA 6 is arguably the most anticipated video game release of the decade, so there’s plenty of wiggle room for the publisher to strike while the iron is hot and move industry standards.
GTA 6 launches in fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
