GTA The Trilogy The Definitive Edition Grand Theft Auto Delayed

GTA: The Trilogy Quietly Gets Console Update With Big Improvements

GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition initially launched with a number of technical problems that were well-documented by fans on release. The “remastered” ports of GTA 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas were found to have tons of visual hiccups, bugs, glitches and performance issues, with not much work put into polishing the console versions. After a very long wait, Rockstar Games has finally released a substantial update for the collection that addresses several issues.

As reported by IGN, Rockstar Games quietly released an unannounced console update for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to bring it more in line with its mobile port. The most significant improvements now include better lighting, shadows, reflections and draw distance. Users on social media have noted that the games now feel more accurate to the visual presentation of the original trilogy with graphical uplifts in all the right places.

Twitter/X user Synth Potato revealed that the update includes a “Classic Lighting” setting that completely transforms the game’s visuals to more faithfully resemble the original titles. The user went through a list of all the important improvements following the recent update, which you can read in more detail right here.

Interestingly, Grove Street Games, the developer responsible for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, had its name removed from the opening credits screens of the console and PC versions, presumably because the studio wasn’t involved in the recent update. If you’re keen to check out all the improvements without paying top price for the bundle, it’s currently available to play with an active GTA+ subscription.
