Take-Two Interactive has announced updated sales for two of its biggest titles from Rockstar Games. According to the publisher, GTA V has now sold an astronomical 210 million copies while Red Dead Redemption 2 sold an impressive 70 million copies.
Speaking at a recent earnings call, Take-Two Interactive revealed that both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 reached new sales milestones: the former sold 210 million copies since its launch in 2013, meaning it pushed 5 million copies in the last three months alone, while the latter hit 70 million copies sold, up 3 million units in the last quarter.
The long anticipation for GTA 6 is certainly a contributing factor in the boosted sales for GTA V over the last year. It continues to hold the title as the highest-selling AAA video game of all time, though on a broader scale, it trails second behind Minecraft which holds the record for the best-selling video game ever at 300 million copies sold. While the details are a bit fuzzy regarding official sales figures, it could also be argued that Tetris actually holds the number one spot at a speculated 500 million copies sold.
GTA V was added to the PlayStation Plus library for a few months last year but despites its inclusion on the subscription service, it still managed to sell millions of copies. The game was eventually removed from PlayStation Plus in May 2024.
GTA Online is definitely one of the key reasons why GTA V manages to be a huge sales success. The online multiplayer mode still receives constant updates and new content from Rockstar Games to this day, giving players more reasons to stick around and play the game apart from its strong single-player campaign.
In the same financial report, Take-Two confirmed that GTA 6 is still on track to release this year in fall 2025, despite a lack of official news or a second trailer since its debut trailer in December 2023.
