GTA V Liberty City Preservation Project Mod Rockstar Games

GTA V Liberty City Mod Taken Down by Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games has taken down a mod aiming to recreate Liberty City in GTA V. The Liberty City Preservation Project has been removed at the request of the developer, though no reason was offered for why the company made this decision.

Rockstar Games is known for taking down several mods in the past, namely a mod that aimed to recreate GTA: Vice City in GTA V. We’d later come to find out that a remaster of Vice City was already in the works with GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, so to some degree, this was understandable. However, other mods such as The Liberty City Preservation Project, which simply aimed to recreate the iconic location using GTA V‘s assets, was pulled without reason.

On Discord, user and modder nkjellman released a short statement saying, “Due to the unexpected attention that our project received and after speaking with Rockstar Games, we have decided to take down the Liberty City Preservation Project.”

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for Rockstar Games to remaster GTA IV if there’s any chance of seeing Liberty City again. The developer is currently very hard at work on GTA 6 so it might be a very long wait.

On the other hand, companies like Bethesda have championed massive mods like Skyblivion and Skywind, two large-scale mods currently in development which aim to remake both The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in Skyrim’s engine.

According to publisher Take-Two Interactive, GTA 6 is still on track to release sometime in 2025, though a release date hasn’t been nailed down yet. In fact, it’s possible that other publishers in the industry are holding back their own release dates to avoid any potential clashes with GTA 6, a highly anticipated title which is shaping up to be the biggest video game release of the generation.
