We know that GTA V is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S sometime in early 2021. What we don’t know is exactly when the enhanced version of the enhanced version will arrive and what it will look like. According to a new data mine, the game is rumoured to run on the updated RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) Engine which Rockstar used to make Red Dead Redemption 2.

The information arrives from the recent Grand Theft Auto V update that suggests the enhanced PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version might run on the updated Red Dead Redemption 2 Rage Engine. The update was datamined by GTAForums user alloc8or and the code in the update refers directly to the Rage Engine used in RDR2.
New structs were added to the game with code examples such as “rage::fwuiMessageBase”. There was also a new code which could mean that players might be able to transfer characters across to the new version. The code “CHasCharacterToTransferDecisionPage” was added to the game.
Keep in mind that Rockstar has yet to share any information regarding GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S other than the original press release announcement that read;
“The new generation versions of GTAV will feature a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever.”
We only know that PS5 owners will get GTA Online for free at launch. Hopefully, Rockstar shares more news in the coming weeks.
