Guerrilla Games Confirms Horizon 3 and Horizon Online

Guerrilla Games has confirmed that the studio has kicked off production on the sequel to Horizon Forbidden West. The game is a no-brainer, to be honest. The events leading up to the end of Horizon Forbidden West clearly indicate that a third game is needed to tell the story. However, Guerrilla Games has now confirmed that it is in development.

The announcement arrived through a blog post detailing some of the staff changes at the studio. Guerrilla Games says its top-level staff are shifting seats with some promotions to developers at the studio. The company also confirmed that it is focusing on developing the Decima engine itself. We know that Sony wants to use this engine to create new games at other studios.

But one sentence stands out in the announcement. At the end of the news, the studio says:

“We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project.”

So this statement basically confirms that Horizon 3 is in development. However, it also confirms the much-rumoured online project is also happening at Guerrilla Games. This project has leaked in the past. So much so that even gameplay footage was uploaded online which showed a co-op party of players taking down the machines.

Of course, the Horizon Online project will likely arrive way before the third instalment in the series. Given the size of the game, creating a whole new sequel is going to take a few years. The original Horizon Zero Dawn was released in 2017 and five years later, we got the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.

It is very unlikely that we will see the conclusion to Alloy’s story before 2026 but the news that it is in development is pretty exciting.
