Let’s face it, we will probably never see Half-Life 3 from Valve unless someone teaches Gabe “GabeN” Newell to count to three. With that necessary statement out of the way, Half-Life fans could have something great to look forward to. A fan-made Half-Life 3 project, named Boreal Alyph, is looking quite good in its early stages of development. Just like Project Borealis, Boreal Alyph is also based on the short story by ex-Valve writer Marc Laidlaw, who revealed how he thought the story of Gordon Freeman would have ended.
The team behind the Boreal Alyph project call themselves Keep Away From Fire and the game looks quite good. Keep in mind that this is still in the very early stages of development. However, you can see from the gameplay video that Boreal Alyph boasts some great physics and animations already. Then, there’s also the Asset Showcase video that shows off some weapons and, of course, one of those creepy headcrabs that still haunt our dreams.
The project also features Physically Based Rendering as well as SubSurface Scattering techniques and I, for one, can’t wait to see what the team can produce as a final product. Let’s just hope Valve doesn’t step in and shut things down. Check out the three videos below.

Sure, it is still early days, but as a Half-Life fan, I simply can’t wait to see how this fan-made project progresses.
What do you think about Boreal Alyph so far and would you play something like this? Let us know in the comment section below.
