Half-Life 3 Confirmed! Sorry, only kidding, but wouldn’t it be grand? Gabe Logan Newell, better known to the internet as GabeN, is the co-founder and big boss at Valve he has, yet again, hinted at Half-Life 3 in what some think is a joke, others think is a real hint and a few might even think is Half-Life 3 confirmed.
Speaking to employees and press about Valve’s high-end Index VR headset that just launched in the US, GabeN talked about the headset and how it was another milestone for Valve, just like the Source engine as well as the launch of Steam all those years back was.
GabeN said that the Index represents the beginning not the end and gave a little history lesson.
Then, GabeN dropped this hint that Half-Life 3 (or Portal 3 or Left 4 Dead 3 to be honest) could one day see the light of day, speaking about that magical number 3.
Half-Life led to Half-Life 2, Source led to Source 2, the experiments with did with Team Fortress 2 are what enabled us to build Dota. Artifact is the reason we’re able to do Underlords. Maybe someday, the number two will lead us to that shiny integer glowing on the mountain someplace.
That’s not exactly any confirmation, but it is a hint, a tease, or maybe even a joke. Whatever the case may be, GabeN even hinting at the number 3 gives me that small glimmer of hope that I’ve lost years ago.
The video below capturing GabeN’s speech might sound a bit low-volume, but that’s because GabeN straight-up refused to use the mic, which is weird. Maybe it had the number 3 on it?
Check out the video by YouTuber Finn Sinclair below and skip to the 2 minute 30-second mark if you don’t want to watch it all, then tell us what you think about GabeN’s comment and if it is indeed a hint at Half-Life 3.
