Half-Life update Valve Steam Half-Life 3

Half-Life 3 Rumours are Back on The Menu After Valve’s ‘White Sands’ Emerges

It seems like Half-Life 3 rumours are appearing on the internet again after it was leaked that developer Valve was working on a new game under the codename ‘White Sands.’ Of course, Half-Life 3 has a very long history of leaks and rumours that have gone nowhere – many of them became memes in their own right – though this latest bit of speculation has stirred up quite a bit of discussion online.

Posted on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours over the weekend, it was discovered that Valve was working on a mysterious new game codenamed ‘White Sands.’ It didn’t take long for speculation to run rampant about what it could possibly be. Tyler McVicker, who has a history of reporting on leaks surrounding Valve and the company’s IPs, speculated that White Sands could be the working name for Half-Life 3.

The leaker’s latest video claims that this title has been in development for years and the protagonist wears an HEV suit, which implies that it’s likely Gordon Freeman, the protagonist of the Half-Life series. Nothing substantial was actually lifted from the leak so it’s best to take all of this with a grain of salt for now.

Interest in the Half-Life series was rejuvenated following the release of the VR exclusive Half-Life: Alyx, which ended on a note that left possibilities open for a potential continuation. It’s unclear if Valve wants to stick to VR or deliver a more traditional video game if it were to continue the Half-Life franchise. The last mainline game in the series, Half-Life 2, released back in November 2004 meaning it will be two decades or more until we hear something related to the next game.

Back in November 2021, a report claimed that Half-Life 3 was not in development at Valve. It’s been three years since that report and things could’ve changed behind the scenes, especially after the very positive reception of Half-Life: Alyx.
