Gamers all over the world are quite upset with the fact that Valve’s latest (and first game in a long time) Half-Life: Alyx is a VR exclusive experience and those without an expensive headset cannot play the game. Well, that is going to change as someone had modded the game to be almost fully playable without a VR headset. The Half-Life: Alyx non-VR mod has been created by r57zone and the latest version lets you play the entire game.
The Half-Life: Alyx non-VR mod lets you play the entire game without a VR headset by allowing you to map the game’s buttons to a keyboard and mouse instead. r57zone released a video of the mod in action to showcase its features and while some things seem a little complicated, the experience is a lot better than forking out tens of thousands of rands for a VR headset.
The Half-Life: Alyx non-VR mod is not perfect as there are still issues like screen tearing and some wonky button issues but it is still a step in the right direction. It is not the best way to play the game at all, but most certainly the cheapest. r57zone will no doubt release updates for the mod in the coming weeks to iron out any issues users are reporting but installation and setup seem to be quick and easy.
