Half-Life: Alyx Reportedly Coming to PlayStation VR2

Sony’s PlayStation VR2 is scheduled to release early next year, promising a big leap into new realms of virtual reality. While there’s already a good lineup of games planned for the hardware, it looks like another exciting addition might be arriving. According to a new report, Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx is also heading to PlayStation VR2.

According to sources close to The Leak, Sony is in negotiations with Valve to bring Half-Life: Alyx to PlayStation VR2. The virtual reality game is available on most PC-compatible VR headsets, but it has yet to grace a console. As with all rumours, take this with a pinch of salt until we have confirmation from Sony.

The Steam page description for Half-Life: Alyx reads:

“Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series. It’s the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities. Among them are some of Earth’s greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.”

Half-Life: Alyx originally launched in early 2020 as a prequel to Half-Life 2, taking place five years before the events of the game. It’s not exactly the continuation fans were hoping for, but it managed to secure some of the highest review scores for any video game in 2020 and won numerous awards in the process.

In related news, Sony is apparently producing around 2 million units to be shipped at launch after it was previously delayed into 2023. Some confirmed games for the hardware so far includes Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Demeo, Firewall Ultra, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge and more.
