We’ve known for a while that Microsoft has plans to make many of its Xbox exclusives multiplatform going forward. Last year, the company released a handful of former exclusive Xbox titles like Hi-Fi Rush on PS5, with rumours of more first-party titles on the way. A new report claims that we’ll see quite a bit of big franchises make their way to the PlayStation in 2025 including Halo and Gears of War.
Last week, known leaker NateTheHate claimed that both Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be heading to PS5 this year. Windows Central has now corroborated these claims, adding Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Age of Mythology and “possibly” Gears of War Ultimate Edition to the list of games potentially coming to PS5 in 2025.
Microsoft has yet to make any official announcements on its multiplatform plans for the bigger Xbox exclusive franchises like Halo and Gears of War, though it seems like we might be playing these games on PS5 and potentially the Nintendo Switch 2 this year which is wild to think about.
Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who wrote the latest report, also claimed last year that Xbox won’t have any exclusives in the future. This is part of Microsoft’s strategy to put its first-party games on as much platforms as possible, though still drive Game Pass growth by including them day one on the subscription service at a much lower monthly cost than purchasing them at full price on other consoles.
Microsoft will host a new Xbox Developer Direct next week which will focus on id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, Compulsion Games’ South of Midnight, Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and a mystery title which some believe could be a long-awaited remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The event will take place on 23 January so we won’t have to wait long to find out.
