Halo Infinite Halo 2 Maps 20th Anniversary

Halo Infinite Adds Halo 2 Maps For 20th Anniversary

Halo Infinite has added several Halo 2 maps in celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary. These maps were built in Forge, the multiplayer map editor first introduced in Halo 3, “with the key help of Halo community members” aiming to make the maps faithful recreations of the ones seen in Halo 2 back in the day. The maps are currently available in the Delta Arena playlist for players to enjoy.

Speaking on a recent Xbox blog post, Halo Infinite designer Evan Colson talked a bit about working with the community to recreate the maps from Halo 2. “We ultimately strived to find fan-favourites that were faithful to their original designs and that could play well within the Infinite environment,” said Colson. Certain settings were also tweaked to align Infinite‘s gameplay more closely with Halo 2‘s movement speed and 120% jump height. Sprint and clamber were also disabled.

Colson explained how developer Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) reworked the gameplay to accomodate the fan-recreated maps:

“Considering all the subtle differences between Halo Infinite and Halo 2, a 1:1 recreation was never quite in the cards, but what we did come to was that of an amalgamation between the two, with settings that move like legacy Halo, but play with elements of the modern sandbox.”

In related news, reports surfaced about a potential PC port of Halo 5: Guardians that was once in the works at 343 Industries before ultimately being scrapped. Another report from last month also claimed that Halo Infinite 2 was in development as well before it was cancelled. It seems like Halo Studios is setting its sights on a new vision for the beloved first-person shooter series going forward, though we’ll only know that future in the next few years.

While we’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of Halo 2, it seems like Microsoft might have plans to remaster Halo: Combat Evolved and port it over to PS5.
