Halo Veteran Joseph Staten Joins Netflix to Make AAA Game

Veteran Halo developer Joseph Staten parted ways with Halo Infinite studio 343 Industries back in January amidst mass layoffs taking place at the time around Microsoft. The developer has now joined forces with Netflix to make an original AAA game, suggesting that the streaming service is quite serious about pushing into the gaming market.

Staten previously worked at Microsoft for 18 years in various roles but more recently, he was named the head of creative at 343 Industries during Halo Infinite‘s development. After leaving Microsoft, it was unclear where Staten was going next. Thankfully, he shared an update on his social media yesterday announcing that he’s joined Netflix as a Creative Director on a new AAA multiplatform game and original IP.

Staten’s announcement on joining Netflix reads:

“In my work life, there’s nothing I love more than collaborating with others to build worlds filled with iconic characters, deep mysteries, and endless adventures. So today, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Netflix Games as Creative Director for a brand-new AAA multiplatform game and original IP. Let’s go!”

Staten was an instrumental part of Halo‘s development at Bungie, where he worked on the beloved first-person shooter series since its conception. His resume not only includes Halo Infinite but he was also the writer of the first three Halo games as well as Halo Reach. With his expertise and years of experience in the field, Netflix’s new IP could be what the company needs to make a big first impression with its current focus on gaming.

Of course, little is actually known about this mysterious AAA game. It’s good to know that it won’t be limited to the streaming service either as Staten revealed that it will be multiplatform. Whatever it is, we can’t wait to see what Staten and Netflix’s team is cooking up.
