Happy Gilmore 2 Sequel Netflix Adam Sandler

Happy Gilmore is Getting a Sequel on Netflix

Almost 30 years after the first movie released, Happy Gilmore is now getting a sequel for Netflix. The cult classic comedy starred Adam Sandler in a defining role that kicked off his career. Sandler will return for Happy Gilmore 2, though no further details such as supporting cast or crew have been announced yet.

The original Happy Gilmore released in 1996 and followed the short-tempered Adam Sandler as the titular character who, after failing to start a career in ice hockey, decides that golf might be the better sport for him. Gilmore, with the mentorship of Chubbs (played by the late Carl Weathers) then enters a golf tournament in order to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure. Happy Gilmore was met with a mixed critical reception but became a decent box office hit, earning $38 million on a budget of around $12 million.

Even though we have no details about Happy Gilmore 2, Adam Sandler stated in a 2022 interview with Variety that he had hoped to one day make a sequel that follows the character entering a senior golf tour.

The description for Happy Gilmore reads:

“A Hockey player wannabe finds out that he has the most powerful golf drive in history. He joins the P.G.A. tour to make some money to save grandma’s house. The downside is that his hockey player mentality doesn’t really go on the P.G.A. tour. Especially with the favourite to win the championship.”

In other Netflix news, the anime series Terminator Zero will officially arrive on the streaming service on 29 August this year. Set within the same universe as the Terminator movies, the series will follow a set of new characters in a prequel that goes back to the early days of Skynet’s war against humanity. Terminator Zero will be animated by Production I.G., best known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Guilty Crown.
