Harry Potter HBO TV Show Harry Ron Hermione Casting Call

HBO’s Harry Potter TV Show Holds Casting Call For Harry, Hermione and Ron Actors

HBO is holding an open casting call for its upcoming Harry Potter TV show, seeking new actors to play the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. In the popular movie adaptations, the roles were previously played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, respectively. Since the show will be a reboot, young actors will need to be cast in the roles.

Variety has confirmed HBO’s open casting call for the Harry Potter TV show. The call seeks actors between the age of 9-11 to play the central trio Harry, Hermione and Ron, with filming scheduled to begin in April 2025. This lines up with HBO’s previous announcement that the first season of the show, which will fully adapt the first book in the series The Philosopher’s Stone, will arrive sometime in 2026.

The deadline for submissions appears to be 31 October 2024. All auditioning children must be residents of the UK or Ireland. One of the conditions in the casting call suggests that the auditioning actors read a short story or poem of their choosing but it just shouldn’t be anything from Harry Potter.

Back in April 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that the series will have a ten-year run and adapt one book per season from the seven books covering the entire Harry Potter saga. This means that each season will be given a considerable amount of time to more faithfully adapt the content of each book without adhering to feature-length movie run times – the movies, while beloved, omitted plenty of stories and plot points from the books to condense the run time for a movie’s length.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping that the show might include a cameo from Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe, we’ve got bad news. Radcliffe stated in July 2023 that he was unlikely to make a cameo in the HBO TV show, though there’s a chance we could get cameos from other familiar faces from the movie adaptations.
