Hellboy Movie Reboot

Hellboy is Getting a Second Live-Action Reboot in “The Crooked Man”

Millennium Media has confirmed that Hellboy is getting its second reboot. It has been two decades since Guillermo del Toro created his vision of the comic book character. Hellboy was then rebooted again in 2019 but sadly, the film was deemed both a commercial and critical failure. It only grossed around $55 million at the box office with a budget of $50 million.

The new Hellboy reboot will see the red devil return in a film called Hellboy: The Crooked Man. According to Deadline, the film will kick off production next month in Bulgaria. The casting for Hellboy himself hasn’t been revealed yet. The character was previously played by Ron Perlman and then David Harbour.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is being directed by Brian Taylor who is known for his movie starring Jason Statham, Crank. More interestingly, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is being written by the comics’ original creator Mike Mignola. He will join Chris Golden in writing the film. Both of them also worked on the 2019 reboot.

Millennium Media hasn’t confirmed what format the film is yet. However, Deadline reports that Hellboy: The Crooked Man is indeed a live-action movie. There’s also a Hellboy comic from 2008 with the same name so it will likely follow the same story. The official synopsis reads:

“The new film will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.”

Millennium Media’s president says that The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films. He says that the movie will be an opportunity for comic creator Mike Mignola to usher in an “authentic version of his stories and characters in film form. He continued to say that it is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar and new ways.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man doesn’t have a release window. It is expected to be an R-Rated folk horror movie.
