It seems like the Xbox port for Helldivers 2 might not be happening after all. The multiplayer action game ended up becoming one of the biggest games of the year when it launched back in February, though it hit a few roadblocks along the way such as unstable servers due to the influx of players in the game. The game enjoyed quite a bit of success on PS5 and PC, though the lingering question was if it would ever grace Microsoft’s consoles.
A new report from Xbox Era’s Shpeshal Nick claims that Helldivers 2 is not happening for Xbox anymore. While developer Arrowhead Game Studios never officially announced that it was working on an Xbox version of the game, the new report could be an early sign that the studio has no intention of bringing it over to Xbox Series X/S. There’s also the possibility that it would’ve taken a lot of effort due to the technical difficulties with the Xbox Series S – something that even Larian Studios had to work around when porting Baldur’s Gate 3.
Arrowhead Game Studios describes the Helldivers 2 content:
“Helldivers 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.”
Helldivers 2 is available on PS5 and PC.
