Henry Cavill is Officially Returning as Superman

Black Adam is out in cinemas right now but it seems like star Dwayne Johnson was spot-on about a certain DC character making a comeback. Henry Cavill has officially announced on his social media that he will be returning as Superman.

Before we proceed any further, take this as a major spoiler warning for Black Adam as the context will only make sense by spoiling its mid-credits scene. During interviews with press before the release of Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson revealed that Henry Cavill would be coming back as Superman and might appear in the movie. This came true during the mid-credits scene, which showed Cavill back in the red cape in an uncredited cameo.

Of course, this is probably in an effort to satiate Johnson’s desire to see Black Adam square off against the Man of Steel one day, but Warner Bros. Discovery and DC have bigger plans for the superhero now that Cavill is back. According to earlier reports, the companies are eager to make Man of Steel 2 with Henry Cavill, which might explain why he has returned to the character after all these years.

“I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman and the image you see in this post and what you saw in Black Adam are a very small taste of what’s to come,” said Cavill on his social media accounts.

Cavill made his debut as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder. He has since appeared in multiple DCEU movies, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League (and Shazam!, if you want to include that).

DC’s current slate of movies consist of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. This isn’t counting a potential sequel to The Batman and Joker: Folie à Deux, which don’t fall into the current shared universe and instead exist in their own separate universes.

Black Adam is now playing in cinemas worldwide.
