Elon Musk appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience to clarify how to pronounce the name. In addition, the two discussed the meaning behind the name.
Musk said his son’s name is pronounced “X Ash A 12”. So basically, the X is just an “X”, the Æ as in Ash, and the A-12 is just “A-12”. Sounds simple right? X Ash A-12.
According to Musk, his partner mainly came up with the name. Claire “Grimes” Boucher tweeted the breakdown on how it came together;
•X, the unknown variable ⚔️
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent ?

While the name is cool and unique, Elon Musk and his partner may encounter a few problems due to the characters in it. For example, the California Office of Vital Records only accepts names that contain 26 alphabetical letters. Citizens cannot have numbers, Roman numerals, accents, umlauts or emojis in their name.
