The Last of Us is likely one of 2023’s most anticipated shows. Early reviews have praised the upcoming live-action adaption of Sony’s video game series calling it a masterpiece made for TV. With the season set to kick off this weekend, South Africans are probably wondering when and where they can watch it. We have you covered.
Given that we don’t have HBO Max in South Africa, The Last of Us will follow the same trend as other shows such as House of the Dragon. This means you’ll have to accept the fact that you either have to stay up until the early hours of the morning to watch “express” from the US on DStv, or wait until later in the day to watch it on Showmax.

The Last of Us will debut on DStv channel 101 at 03:00 in the morning on 16 January. The show will then be added to Showmax for streaming at 10pm that day. We are waiting for confirmation on whether or not the show will be added to the DStv streaming up after the debut at 03:00.
New episodes of The Last of Us will then follow the same trend. Every Monday morning at 03:00, you’ll be able to watch new episodes express on DStv channel 101. You can then stream the episode at 10 pm that night.
You could always use a VPN and simply watch it in glorious 4K Dolby Vision on HBO Max. It beats 720p SDR on DStv and 1080p SDR on Showmax – just saying.
