Nintendo Switch 2 USE THIS ONE

Here’s Why You Won’t See Nintendo Switch 2 Reviews at Launch

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released worldwide tomorrow and ahead of the next-gen hybrid console’s release, fans might’ve been wondering where all the pre-release coverage was. Usually with most new console releases, we get a healthy amount of coverage such as breakdowns, tech analyses and early game reviews for launch titles before it hits store shelves. However, the Switch 2 is a special case for a few very specific reasons.

The biggest reason why we won’t be seeing Nintendo Switch 2 reviews at launch is due to a day one console update that will only roll out on release day, effectively locking the console until its launch date tomorrow (or coinciding time zones today, at least). This was not only a preventative measure taken by Nintendo to avoid leaks via retail workers with slippery fingers and connections, it also gave Nintendo enough time to work out some kinks with the software so it’s ready for launch. After all, Switch 2 stock was apparently shipped to some retailers as early as April.

Why did Nintendo ship stock of the Switch 2 so early? As you can imagine, it’s set to be quite a massive console launch and to keep up with demand and ensure retailers have enough stock on hand, the rollout process had to begin a little earlier than usual. Unfortunately, we’ll probably see some scalpers still try their luck but at least with a more generous amount of stock available, there’s less chance you’ll need to cough up triple the RRP to get a Switch 2 from God’s least favourite business entrepreneurs.

Naturally, this also means that Mario Kart World and by extension, all game coverage and reviews, will only start appearing after the Switch 2’s launch. For media, no early review units were sent out due to Nintendo getting the day one update ready in time.
