Death Stranding 2: On The Beach creator Hideo Kojima has found a way to insert himself into the game in a little cameo that’s not even bound to earth. Fans have discovered that Kojima’s face can be seen in the game’s night sky as a star constellation. It’s a great Easter egg for players who always go on the hunt to find Kojima, who has a tendency to put himself in most of his games in cameo roles (even in other games like Cyberpunk 2077).
Hideo Kojima told GameSpark in a recent interview that he adds all of his cameos into his games himself as his staff at Kojima Productions pretend not to know what he’s talking about whenever he suggests the idea. “I put all of these things in,” said Kojima. “Even if I said to the staff, ‘Please put them in!’, they would just say, ‘Huh?’ and pretend not to know. Some people might be a little put off (laughs).”
Death Stranding 2 players quickly discovered that Kojima inserted a cameo of himself as a constellation in the night sky, which can be seen randomly while travelling at night. In the first game, Kojima appeared as a BT while Sam Bridges rests in his private room. It’s a rare scene to trigger since it involves angling the camera to look at Norman Reedus’ feet for some reason (I’m sure Quentin Tarantino would be proud), but those lucky enough to stumble upon it got quite a Kojima-branded jump scare.
