High on Life Breaks Xbox Game Pass Records for 2022

High on Life, the latest comedy adventure game from Squanch Games, recently released on both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. However, Microsoft has now revealed that it has broken some records for the subscription service. Not only is High on Life the biggest Game Pass launch of 2022, it’s also the biggest third-party Game Pass launch of all time as well as the biggest release of a single-player game in the service’s history.

High on Life released on 12 December as the new project from Rick and Morty‘s Justin Roiland and developer Squanch Games. As the story goes, an alien cartel is seeking to harvest humanity and turn them into drugs. It’s up to you, the player, and an onslaught of talking guns to bring down the alien threat and save the world from an impending doom.

Microsoft recently announced that High on Life was one of the biggest success stories in the history of Game Pass. Squanch Games studio director Mike Fridley provided a statement after hearing the exciting, record-breaking news:

“This was our first time launching a game with Game Pass, and we’ve been blown away by the response from the players who have made us the most popular game on Game Pass right now. When Squanch Games was first created, it was to make the games we wanted to play – and Game Pass is helping us reach the players that want to play those games too.”

While High on Life is certainly racking in blockbuster player numbers, it fell short of being a critical success with most media outlets. According to Open Critic, the average rating now sits at 69/100 with most scores ranging from low to moderately high. However, the player reception has been different. On Metacritic, it boasts a user score of 8.2.

High on Life is currently available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
