IO Interactive says it will remove all content related to Conor McGregor following the court ruling where he was charged £200,000 after being found guilty of rape. The studio took to X to share the news saying it will remove all content featuring the rapist from storefronts starting today.
“In light of the recent court ruling regarding Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has made the decision to cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately. We take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. Consequently, we will begin removing all content featuring Mr. McGregor from our storefronts starting today.”
Conor McGregor wasn’t a main character in the Hitman series but he did have themed DLC designed after him. He was an elusive target in Hitman 3 and players could hunt him down and kill him as Agent 47. IO Interactive also designed and released in-game items themed around Conor McGregor. This included a fur coat.
The elusive target was called The Disruptor and was accurately designed after McGregor to include his voice and likeness. The target was actually part of the game’s current timed event set to end on 8 December. However, IO Interactive says it will be cut short following the news.
Conor McGregor was charged with rape after a victim came forward and accused him of sexual assault back in 2018. The ongoing case concluded last week with a court ruling awarding the victim, Nikita Hand £234,000 in damages. Hand claimed McGregor battered and raped her at a hotel in south Dublin back in 2018. McGregor says he will appeal the judgement.
