Hogwarts Legacy, the latest open-world RPG from developer Avalanche Software that lets players live out a fantasy life in the Wizarding World, is still going strong in global sales since its launch earlier last month. According to a new stats, the game is now the second best-selling retail PS5 title in Japan right now, beating out previous top spot holder Gran Turismo 7.
According to new sales data acquired by Novice Gamer Guides, Hogwarts Legacy has sold 298,945 retail copies in Japan, beating out Gran Turismo 7 which previously held the first spot at 154,174 retail copies sold. In third place is Horizon Forbidden West at 151,755 copies sold while Elden Ring follows closely behind in fourth place with 141,741 sold units.

Hogwarts Legacy had a tremendous launch, selling a whopping 12 million copies in just two weeks on the global market. By now, that number has surely increased given that it’s still selling incredibly well around the world. Publisher Warner Bros Games quickly shared the initial information but we’ll wait for updated sales figures in the near future to try and determine if the sales showed consistent growth. Earlier this month, Hogwarts Legacy also managed to surpass Elden Ring sales in the UK.
Despite only launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, these are impressive sales figures. Avalanche Software previously delayed the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One versions to 5 May, citing that it needs more time in development to polish the experience and make sure it runs well on last-gen consoles. The Nintendo Switch version is still on track to release in July but plans could easily change.
Hogwarts Legacy is set over a century before the events of Harry Potter and follows a custom-created fifth year student that enrolls in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Players must hone their character’s abilities by attending classes, learning an assortment of spells and meeting fellow students, all while uncovering a plot surrounding the resurgence of dark wizards and a goblin uprising.
Hogwarts Legacy is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
