Hogwarts Legacy Review - A Magical Masterpiece

Hogwarts Legacy Might Dethrone Call of Duty as 2023’s Best-Selling Game in The US

Hogwarts Legacy, the latest open-world RPG based on the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, launched earlier this year to become a massive critical and commercial success for publisher Warner Bros Games and developer Avalanche Software. In just two weeks, the game managed to sell over 12 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games of the year. Now there’s a possibility that it might dethrone both the Call of Duty franchise and GTA from the US list of best-selling games of the year.

As reported by analyst Mat Piscatella, Hogwarts Legacy is currently at the top of the charts for best-selling game of 2023 in the US. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is trailing close behind in second place. While the year isn’t over yet, it’s still possible for Modern Warfare 3 to pass Hogwarts Legacy and claim the top spot through holiday sales, so we’ll have to wait and see if Avalanche Software’s RPG holds strong.

If Hogwarts Legacy does end up holding off Modern Warfare 3 on the US charts, it will break the long-running streak of the same games appearing on the top, including annual Call of Duty releases and a mix of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Interestingly, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom managed to pass Hogwarts Legacy‘s launch sales upon release but in the end, the latter apparently continued to sell very well in the following months if it shot to top of US charts for the entire year.

Warner Bros. Games might ride the success of the game as a report from September this year claimed that a sequel was already in the works. Avalanche also launched Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch last month but it wasn’t exactly a smooth transition as analysts discovered that the Switch port completely removed the seamless open-world and added a bunch of very long loading screens in between areas.

Hogwarts Legacy is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
