Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Will Tie in With New HBO Harry Potter Show

WB Games has confirmed that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel is indeed in development and “one of the biggest priorities” for the company at the moment, especially following the success of its predecessor which ended up becoming the highest-selling video game of 2023. WB Games has now also revealed that the sequel will tie in with the upcoming Harry Potter show being developed for HBO.

David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, recently stated in a new interview with Variety that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel is a “very big priority” at WB Games and developer Avalanche Software, echoing similar sentiments shared by chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels in September. Haddad also confirmed that the follow-up will tie in with the new HBO Harry Potter show, which aims to more faithfully and accurately adapt all seven books in the series across multiple seasons.

How it will tie in remains anyone’s guess, though there has been some speculation that the game’s sequel will be set much closer or concurrently with the events of the Harry Potter timeline. The first Hogwarts Legacy game was set a century before the events of the books and decades before Fantastic Beasts, meaning we got to experience a new cast of characters, stories and even see the ancestors of familiar characters.

WB Games told Variety that since its release in February 2023, Hogwarts Legacy had surpassed 30 million sales worldwide, making it one of the highest-selling titles of this generation. It’s a no-brainer that a sequel would become a priority given its tremendous financial and critical success.

Hints of a sequel surfaced via job listings posted by Avalanche Software back in August, meaning the second game is presumably still in early development. We’ll likely have to wait a few years before we hear anything about it.

Hogwarts Legacy is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
