Hogwarts Legacy Sold Over 12 Million Copies in Two Weeks

Hogwarts Legacy, the latest open-world RPG based in the Harry Potter Wizarding World, has expectedly sold very well. According to publisher Warner Bros. Games, Hogwarts Legacy managed to sell over 12 million copies on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in just under two weeks. This makes it the biggest global launch ever for the company.

In addition to the massive sales figures, Hogwarts Legacy also brought in $850 million in global sales and 1.28 million peak concurrent viewers on Twitch, which is a new record for a single-player game. Despite only launching on current-gen hardware and PC, these are impressive numbers and it begs the question how much more it would’ve sold if it managed to release the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions on time.

Hogwarts Legacy transports players to the Harry Potter universe set a hundred years before the events of the books and movies. Players enroll as a new custom-created student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where they’re tasked with attending classes, learning various new spells, exploring a fully-realised version of Hogwarts Castle and unearthing a conspiracy about Dark wizards and a goblin rebellion.

Reviews for Hogwarts Legacy were mostly positive with many praising its wonderful recreation of Hogwarts Castle and the surrounding areas on a sprawling open-world map of Scotland’s countryside. While the final product sadly didn’t include Quidditch as a playable sport, it did boast an extraordinary amount of content ranging from main and side quests to exploration on a sizeable map and a well-implemented RPG system. In our review, we called it a magical masterpiece. Read it right here.

In related news, developer Avalanche Software says it has no plans for Hogwarts Legacy DLC at the moment as it’s focusing on the base game including the upcoming PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch releases. A multiplayer mod is also being tested on PC that will allow players to explore Hogwarts with friends in co-op.

Hogwarts Legacy is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. PS4 and Xbox One versions are expected to launch on 4 April 2023, with a Nintendo Switch version arriving on 25 July 2023.
