During last week’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase, Hollow Knight: Silksong fans got a tantalising six-second glimpse at the game coming to the next-gen console. Players assumed this means Silksong would only be launching on the Switch 2, though a developer has now clarified that it will also launch on the original Switch as well.
Nintendo fans will have to move over to the Switch 2 to enjoy next-gen titles like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and From Software’s multiplayer title The Duskbloods, though there’s still life left in the original Switch with plenty of games to look forward to. One of those games will be Hollow Knight: Silksong, which has been in development for what feels like an eternity. Developer Team Cherry revealed that the long-awaited sequel will finally release in 2025 for both Switch consoles.
“Just to clarify… Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming to both Nintendo Switch AND the Nintendo Switch 2,” said Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin on social media. This is excellent news for players who feared that the anticipated game would require them to purchase a whole new console to play. Thankfully, it seems like Silksong is still on track to launch on other platforms too, meaning your options aren’t limited.
The game description for Hollow Knight: Silksong reads:
“Play as Hornet, princess-protector of Hallownest, and adventure through a whole new kingdom ruled by silk and song! Captured and brought to this unfamiliar world, Hornet must battle foes and solve mysteries as she ascends on a deadly pilgrimage to the kingdom’s peak. Hollow Knight: Silksong is the epic sequel to Hollow Knight, the award winning action-adventure. As the lethal hunter Hornet, journey to all-new lands, discover new powers, battle vast hordes of bugs and beasts and uncover ancient secrets tied to your nature and your past.”
Hollow Knight: Silksong launches in 2025 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
