Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley has told fans not to expect Hollow Knight: Silksong at the upcoming event. The anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight was revealed years ago and has since become a meme in the gaming community due to its lengthy development time and slow trickle of new information or trailers. Fans will unfortunately have to hold out hope for another event to see Silksong as Gamescom won’t have answers.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally unveiled back in 2019 as a highly anticipated follow-up to the award-winning indie game, Hollow Knight. Five years later and the game is still nowhere to be seen. Despite the growing demand for new trailers at gaming events throughout the years, the indie sequel has been a no-show, for the most part.
Geoff Keighley, the host and creator of Gamescom Opening Night Live, took to X to announce that Hollow Knight: Silksong will not be at the opening ceremony. “Just to get this out of the way, no Silksong on Tuesday at ONL,” said Keighley. “Team Cherry Games is still cooking.”

While Hollow Knight: Silksong will once again be a no-show at another big gaming event, Keighley confirmed a list of games that will be present at the show such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Marvel Rivals, Dune Awakening, Monster Hunter Wilds, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle and Sid Meier’s Civilization VII.
Keighley also informed viewers to expect some “new game announcements” as well, addressing a criticism pointed at his Summer Game Fest earlier this year which was notably lacking big game reveals and more focused on already announced titles.
Gamescom Opening Night Live will take place on 20 August at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST or 8pm SAST.
