Horizon Forbidden West Special Edition Collector's Edition Regalia Edition

Horizon Forbidden West Gives Players Story Choices But There is One Single Ending to The Game

Horizon Forbidden West is just a few weeks away (eek!!). If you’re invested in the overall story of Aloy and her journey to the West then you’ll be happy to know the game features some dedicated moral choices players need to make throughout the story.

According to Guerrilla Games’ Benjamin McCaw, missions in Horizon Forbidden West will give players the freedom to spend certain time with supporting characters that help strengthen the bond between them and Aloy. However, these relationships won’t affect the overall ending of the game.

McCaw spoke to the Italian website Everyeye. In the interview, McCaw revealed that Horizon Forbidden West has one single ending regardless of how you approach the story. While players are given the freedom to spend time with the supporting cast in specific missions, these relationships don’t have any impact on the progression of the story.

The time you decide to spend with certain supporting actors could have an effect, albeit minimal, on the progress of the story.

Let’s be clear: Horizon Forbidden West will have a single ending, very strong and impactful, but some nuances may change depending on the characters you have given space and attention to. In addition, on a couple of occasions, there will be very strong moral choices, which will have extremely powerful consequences.

It was also revealed that, on certain occasions, players are given very strong moral choices to make that have extremely powerful consequences on the current story. Again, these choices won’t affect the ending of Horizon Forbidden West so by the sound of things, they are restricted to the tribes and relationships Aloy builds on her mission.

McCaw also shared details on Aloy’s adventure to the West and where the game picks up after Horizon Zero Dawn.

I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I’ll tell the background a little. Forbidden West takes place six months after the first chapter. In these six months, the Red Plague begins to spread across the world. This is a first indication of the critical failure of the terraforming operation. Another clue is represented by severe climate change, symbolized by the ferocious storms that are also glimpsed in some clips of the trailers.

If we want, Horizon Forbidden West is a game that also talks about ecology and the environment. In any case, Aloy begins studying the plague right away, and her clues point her to the West. The beginning of the game will explain exactly why.

We also got to sit down with Benjamin McCaw a few weeks back and discuss the game’s story and specifically, the quest progression players can expect to see in the game. Read our full report here.

Horizon Forbidden West releases on 18 February for PS4 and PS5.
