Horizon MMORPG in Development From Sony and NCSoft – Report

Sony has reportedly signed a partnership with Korean studio NCSoft to develop an MMORPG based on the Horizon series from Guerrilla Games. NCSoft is best known for games like Guild Wars and Lineage. According to reports, the MMO will arrive on PC as well as mobile platforms.

Korean news site MTN (translated by PlayStation Lifestyle) revealed that an anonymous source “familiar with Sony and NC” stated both parties have entered a business partnership to create a new title “using Sony’s promising game IP” that will be developed by NCSoft’s internal team. However, NCSoft were quick to release a statement on the leak, stating “it is difficult to confirm information about unpublished projects that are currently under development.”

This aligns with job listings posted by Guerrilla Games last year seeking a senior games writer position for someone with extensive knowledge of online games and MMORPGs. Adding more fuel to the fire, PlayStation Global also has a job position open for a Korean translator based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the home of Guerrilla Games’ HQ.

Sony is expanding the Horizon series to other corners of the market but not just this new MMORPG. Netflix is currently producing a live-action Horizon TV show, with many other projects also planned by PlayStation Productions to turn some of its biggest IPs into either shows or movies. A Horizon Zero Dawn remaster is also reportedly in the works.

Sony and Guerrilla Games released Horizon Forbidden West earlier this year for PS4 and PS5, which was a continuation of 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn. Both titles received critical and commercial success, which was enough for PlayStation to recognise it as an important property in its library.

It’s unclear when the Horizon MMORPG will be officially unveiled, though we won’t have to wait too long if rumours are already beginning to spread.
