Sony has not canned its Horizon live-service multiplayer game amid the recent layoffs at the company. Guerrilla Games officially confirmed that the studio was working on an online multiplayer version of the Horizon series back in 2022. We haven’t heard anything regarding the game since
Given the recent cancellation of The Last of Us Factions and London Studios online fantasy RPG, we braced for the worst news. Don’t forget that Sony also cancelled the in-development live-service Twisted Metal game last week during the layoffs.
According to Jason Schreier, the Horizon online game wasn’t part of Sony’s restructuring process. So we can assume that Guerrilla Games is still hard at work on the project.
We still don’t know much about the game. Previous gameplay leaks revealed that players would take on giant robotic creatures with online friends. The gameplay showcased players running around large open areas using all sorts of weapons to fight off these mechs. The players were also dressed in unique outfits styled as avatars. So you’ll likely create your own character and be able to equip them with various cosmetics.
We don’t know how the game’s live-service elements are going to work through. Players will need a reason to keep coming back and at the moment, no leak has detailed the game’s grind.
We will hopefully hear more about the project in the coming months. Perhaps the game is one of Sony’s 2024 planned releases? Let’s hope. It is expected to be released on both PC and PS5.
