Last year, a PS5 remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn was leaked ahead of PlayStation or developer Guerrilla Games making any official announcement. However, a source suggests that the remaster is not being developed by Guerrilla Games. Instead, it’s being handled by another unnamed studio.
According to Last Stand Media’s Colin Moriarty, the rumoured Horizon Zero Dawn remaster won’t be developed by original studio Guerrilla Games. Another team is reportedly developing the remaster for PS5. This isn’t uncommon in the gaming industry as big publishers will often outsource remasters or remakes to other studios. PlayStation, for example, has a long history of this such as Bluepoint handling the remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls.

“We’re also assuming that [Guerrilla] is making the Horizon remake thing there, although, if that’s real, what I’ve heard is that it’s at another team,” said Moriarty. As with all rumours, take this with a pinch of salt for now.
News about the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster (or initially reported as a remake) first surfaced back in October last year. The remaster will reportedly feature updated visuals, improved mechanics and much more to bring it in line with its gorgeous sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. It’s believed that PlayStation is remastering the 2017 game to release it alongside the announced Netflix TV series adaptation.
In related news, Guerrilla Games recently revealed a major expansion for Horizon Forbidden West titled Burning Shores, which will take players to a Los Angeles that has now been transformed into a volcanic archipelago. The expansion will release on 19 April 2023 exclusively for PS5.
Sony is also reportedly partnering with NCSoft to develop a Horizon MMORPG, though details are scarce about this particular project.
Horizon Forbidden West is currently available for PS4 and PS5. The Horizon Zero Dawn remaster has yet to be officially announced.
