Hugh Jackman is coming out of retirement as Wolverine to star in the next Deadpool movie. The actor, who has played Wolverine across multiple X-Men reboots will reprise his role as the superhero alongside Ryan Reynolds. The film is expected to release on 6 September 2024.
Jackman originally played Wolverine in the 2000s X-Men. The film launched his career into stardom and 17 years later he appeared in nine films with various cameos throughout the series. Jackman officially announced he was hanging up his Wolverine claws after the 2017 release “Logan” in which the mutant was actually killed off.

At the moment we don’t know how Wolverine will tie into Deadpool 3. However, by the look of things, Jackman will have a lead role in the film and the story is tied directly to Deadpool and Wolverine’s relationship.
This is not the first time Deadpool and Wolverine have been in the same movie though. In the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds starred alongside Jackman’s Wolverine. However, Deadpool didn’t play a major role in the film. In fact, Reynold’s anti-hero was shown with his mouth sewn shut during the movie’s finale – something Reynolds jokes about in the later films.
Deadpool 3 is being directed by Shawn Levy. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first two films are also returning to write the script for Deadpool 3. The film is also the first Deadpool movie made by Marvel Studios after 20th Century Fox handled both the 2016 and 2018 releases. Kevin Feige is set to produce the film.
In a video, Ryan Reynolds once again joked about the mouth-sewn-shut scene and explained in his typical comedic style where the inspiration for Deadpool 3 came from. I highly recommend you watch the clip.
