Hunter Schafer Rumoured to Play Zelda in Live-Action Legend of Zelda Movie

Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer is rumoured to play Zelda in the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie from Nintendo and Sony Pictures. Schafer, being a fan of the video games, previously expressed interest in taking on the role. However, it looks like plans are moving forward for her to actually appear in the movie.

As far back as 2022, Hunter Schafer was the popular vote among fans to play Zelda during fan-castings of a Legend of Zelda movie. Ever since Nintendo announced the live-action movie, there’s been a push online to get Schafer in the role. “That would be so cool. I love the games, personally. I played it as a kid and I still play it now. Who knows! That would be pretty cool,” said Schafer during a previous interview when asked about the fan-cast.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Schafer is now in talks to play Zelda in the live-action Legend of Zelda movie from director Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes). Even if it’s just a rumour for now, there’s plenty of excitement online among fans. Not only does Schafer look the part of Zelda, she’s a talented actress who appeared in the hit HBO show Euphoria and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Schafer will also star in the upcoming Hideo Kojima horror game, OD.

In related news, Nintendo is reportedly planning to make a live-action movie trilogy based on The Legend of Zelda. A lot is riding on the success of the first movie. The official cast has yet to be announced, which leaves the role open for Link as well. Nintendo also confirmed that the movie will release before 2030, so it might be a bit of a wait until the project moves forward at Sony Pictures.
