Ico Movie TV Show Pitched Sony Shadow of the Colossus

Ico Movie or TV Show Adaptation Was Pitched to Sony – Report

A movie or TV show adaptation of Ico, the classic adventure game from Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian developer Team Ico, was reportedly pitched to Sony. The news follows Sony’s commitment to adapt several of its franchises and IPs into live-action media under PlayStation Productions. It turns out that an adaptation of Ico was pitched but apparently, nothing came of it.

The report originates from Easy Allies’ Michael Huber, who spoke openly about having a friend who pitched a movie or TV show adaptation of Ico to Sony. Huber doesn’t make it clear if this pitch was successful or not, though it seems like the idea was passed by PlayStation. Given the original game’s strong cinematic nature already, it would fit a live-action or animated adaptation extremely well.

“I say movie or show cause my friend pitched Ico to Sony, cause it was on the list of games they wanted treatments for,” said Huber during the latest Easy Allies Podcast. For those unaware, Ico was the precursor to Shadow of the Colossus. It’s never been officially confirmed but many fans believe that the universes of both games are connected in some way.

Sony has a number of adaptations currently in the works under PlayStation Productions. Chief among those is a movie adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima, which is being helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. Elsewhere, a God of War TV show is also in the works at Amazon along with a Horizon Zero Dawn TV show at Netflix. PlayStation Productions previously released the live-action Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.

On a lesser note, a Gravity Rush movie is also being developed. Footage of the movie was shown at CES 2024 earlier this year, which was mainly a demo of the visual effects. We’ll likely see Sony greenlight more live-action projects in the near future as its library of IPs grows.
