Out of nowhere, Bethesda announced a new ambitious project in the form of an Indiana Jones game. The teaser trailer which appeared on Twitter revealed that the game is currently being developed by MachineGames, known for Wolfenstein II, and Lucasfilm Games. Right now, we know virtually nothing about the game whatsoever but the idea of an Indiana Jones game is exciting enough.

The trailer does give us some idea as to where and when the game will be set. Near the end of the camera pan, we can see a ticket to Rome which is dated for 21 October 1937. This would place the game between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. There are also other hints scattered around the table including books relating to hidden stones, strange circles and diagrams of temples.

The Indiana Jones series has been absent from gaming for some time now. The last game in the series released in 2009 was Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. Of course, let’s not forget the LEGO games which released in 2008 and 2009 respectively. The whole venture sounds like the start of something new and exciting. The upcoming game also marks the first major project from the newly-branded Lucasfilm Games. The company announced a rebrand and “new era” in gaming the other day and many believed it would be related to Star Wars. This is good news.

But there’s also the question of whether or not this game will be an Xbox ecosystem exclusive. As you know by now, Bethesda is now owned by Microsoft. The publisher is handling this Indiana Jones game so it is unclear what the future holds for the PlayStation platform in regards to future Microsoft-owned properties.
