Inside Out 2 has crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the first movie of 2024 to reach that milestone (and since 2023’s Barbie). It has also become one of a few animated movies to pass a billion dollars at the box office next to the two Frozen movies, The Incredibles 2, Minions and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, among others.
According to box office numbers (via Box Office Mojo), Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing movie of 2024 so far after passing $1 billion – a feat shared by 11 other animated movies. More interestingly, it has also set the record for the fastest-grossing animated movie to reach $1 billion, passing the milestone in only 15 days in cinemas. It currently sits with US domestic total of $469.3 million and $545.5 million international total, collectively pushing it over the billion mark.
The Walt Disney Company’s Tony Chambers spoke enthusiastically about Inside Out 2‘s success via People Magazine, stating:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have reached this phenomenal milestone in record time, and it once again proves that global audiences will come out for a great movie. The film’s remarkable success is a testament not only to the incredible creativity of the Pixar team but an example of moviegoing at its very best.”
Inside Out 2 is the sequel to 2015’s Inside Out created by Pixar. It tells the story of Riley, a teenage girl dealing with everyday problems while her emotions, personifications of Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness, struggle to cope with her newfound Anxiety (played by Stranger Things actress Maya Hawke).
In other news, the animated movie world will also receive the final arc of the Demon Slayer anime, Infinity Castle, which will be adapted into a movie trilogy and distributed worldwide in cinemas, though no release date was mentioned in its teaser trailer announcement.
