Hitman developer IO Interactive has revealed its upcoming online fantasy RPG codenamed Project Fantasy. The company has yet to reveal an official title for the game but we now have a few details to digest including how it learned several lessons about the long-term development of previous Hitman games and what knowledge it will be applying to its new MMORPG.
Project Fantasy will be based on a new IP and not on any pre-existing property. IO Interactive is currently hiring across various positions at the company to work on the project, including a senior combat designer, senior gameplay animator, senior game producer, lead gameplay animator and senior project manager. It sounds like a lot of key positions are still vacant suggesting that the game might not be too far along in early development.

The studio released a statement confirming that it’s working on a fantasy RPG following previous rumours:
“Now we are sharing with all of you, that we are embarking on a new adventure! One that expands our creativity, our capabilities, and in some sense our identity. We are building a new world, a new intellectual property—an online fantasy RPG. A world and a game built from the core to entertain players and expand for many years to come. It feels familiar, yet at the same time IO Interactive is going on a journey unlike any we have been on before.”
The rest of the statement goes on to mention how IO Interactive’s various teams and developers were huge fans of the fantasy genre and some of the role-playing elements that come with it. “For everyone around that table it meant creativity, imagination, building a world together and a shared goal in creating a great game experience,” IO Interactive continued.
IO Interactive’s multiple studios across the globe will be working together on Project Fantasy. No concrete details were unveiled about the game but it’s good to hear how passionate the studio is about taking on the realm of fantasy.
