It is a big day for Apple fans as the company starts rolling out its new software updates. Later today, Apple users will get the newest iOS 17 software which has been in beta since June. But there’s a lot more going on today than just iOS 17. Both WatchOS 10 and iPadOS 17 are also expected to be released later today.
WatchOS 10 marks a substantial step forward for the Apple Watch range as it completely overhauls the operating system and reworks how you engage with your device. iPadOS 17, on the other hand, feels a little lacklustre in comparison to iOS 17 and WatchOS 10. It is trailing behind iOS 17 when it comes to features and Apple is still struggling to make the platform feel new.

All these new updates are expected to be released later today. In South Africa, you’ll be able to start downloading them from 19:00 CAT. If you don’t see them in your Software Update tab, just keep refreshing until they pop up. Last year, Apple did run into some issues rolling out iOS 16 and the OTA update arrived a few hours late.
iOS 17 is shipping with some exciting new features. Apple has detailed all of them on its dedicated web page but you can expect customized call screens, video voicemails, customized live stickers, StandBy mode, interactive widgets, new AirDrop functionality and more.
While iOS 17 aims to be a big launch for Apple, it is also launching with a number of missing features which were announced originally during WWDC. The Journal app, for example, won’t be released on time. Apple is also holding back its AirDrop over the internet feature until iOS 17.1.
