iOS 18, macOS, iPadOS and Watch OS 11 Public Beta Now Available – How to Install

Apple has launched the public beta for iOS 18. Before you jump the gun and install the test software, however, you need to keep in mind that at the moment iOS 8 doesn’t include any fancy Apple Intelligence features. So don’t install it if that’s what you’re looking for. Apple Intelligence is only coming to iOS 18 much later this year.

With that being said, if you feel like exploring the new iOS 18 software and you’re not a developer, you can now easily install the beta. Alongside the iPhone software, users can also install the public betas of macOS, iPadOS, tvOS and WatchOS.

These public beta builds are one version behind the latest developer build so you might not have all the features you’ll see the internet posting about on social media.

Each platform comes with its own set of new features but the iPhone is likely the most exciting. It comes with a new homescreen, customization features, redesigned Photos app, new Control Centre, dark mode icons, a dynamic wallpaper and more.

Before considering the public beta, be sure your device is compatible with the latest software. You can find our full compatibility guide for every software and device here.

Installing these public betas is quite easy. You simply need to head on over to Apple’s website and enroll your Apple ID in the beta program. This will tie all devices you have into the public beta enrollment. So if you have an Apple TV device with your Apple ID signed in, it will let you install the beta there, for example.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll need to head to each of the settings menu for each device you want to install the software on.

  • iPhone
    • Head to Settings – General – Software Update – Beta Updates
  • iPad
    • Head to Settings – General – Software Update – Beta Updates
  • WatchOS
    • Head to the Watch App – Settings – General – Software Update – Beta Updates
  • macOS
    • Open System Settings – General – Software Update – Beta Updates
  • tvOS
    • Open Settings – System – Software Updates – Beta Updates

Once you have selected the beta update on your device, it will begin downloading the software and installing it. It is that simple. Each time Apple launches a new version of the beta, you’ll also get to update your device to the latest version. To unroll your device, repeat the process above but select iOS 17 instead of the iOS 18 public beta. Keep in mind that some devices can’t be downgraded to an earlier version of the software.
