iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Launches on 20 September in South Africa

iStore has announced that the latest iPhone 16 lineup will launch in South Africa on 20 September. This launch day lines up with the American release date making it the first time South Africans are getting the new Apple flagship on the same day.

Apple announced the iPhone 16 during its September event. The phone includes a new Camera Control button, sensors, larger displays and A18 chips. Catch up on the full announcement here.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro pre-orders open on 13 September ahead of the launch day. South Africans will be able to pre-order their phones and be sure to lock in the model and size they want.

iStore has also announced a Contract Price Freeze plan for customers. The program lets customers upgrade to the iPhone 16 range while keeping their monthly contract price the same as their existing plan.

Of course, iStore also offers the option to trade in their existing iPhone for credit towards their new model. This applies to both a contract and a cash purchase. iStore is offering up to R22,000 off the iPhone 16 when you trade in certain devices. You can not only trade in current iPhones but up to five devices including Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, PCs and Android smartphones.

Customers who purchase a new iPhone 16 from iStore will receive free iCare and Guaranteed Buy-Back. iCare comes with an extra year of extended warranty while Buy-Back ensures you can trade in your purchased iPhone 16 at at least 55% of its value up to two years later. Granted, it is still in good condition.

At the moment we don’t have any local pricing for the iPhone 16 lineup in South Africa.  The pricing will likely be announced ahead of the pre-order program which opens on 13 September. However, if you want a ballpark figure of what you’ll pay, I have included the iPhone 15 pricing below. Given Apple didn’t increase the iPhone 16 price and our exchange rate is doing “okay”, we shouldn’t see any major price hike on the phones.
