There’s a chance that John Cena, the pro wrestler and actor, could become the new Captain America after the upcoming Avengers 4 film. If you didn’t see that coming (sorry), then you are not alone. Mr Cena recently posted a picture of Captain America’s shield on his Instagram and fans have been going wild ever since.

We know Chris Evans won’t be Captain America for much longer as his contract is expiring after Avengers 4 and he even Tweeted what looks like a farewell post stating that:

Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honour. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

The running theory before Cena’s Instagram post was that Bucky would become the next Captain America. With Cena’s post featuring the Captain America shield with five claw marks in it, many fans have changed their minds. Check out the Instagram post below and then my theory of why Cena won’t be the new Captain America, but instead, a Marvel villain.

So if not new Captain America, then who? Well, I, for one, think Cena will play the role of U.S. Agent, aka Super-Patriot. He is an incarnation of Captain America which first appeared in the comic books in 1986 in Captain America #323. Best of all, his name is also John, John Walker in fact. The patriotic villain would be the perfect fit for Cena.

Here’s what I think will happen:

Steve Rogers makes the ultimate sacrifice close to the end of Avengers 4 with the goal of the Avengers gaining control over the Soul Stone, which requires a sacrifice. After that point, either at the end of Avengers 4 or at the start of the next Captain America film, U.S. Agent gets a hold of the shield, and then the next Captain America film could be called “Captain America: Patriotism”. This should lead to Bucky finally becoming the new Captain America after him and Black Panther defeats U.S. Agent. The claw marks on the shield in John Cena’s Instagram post will make sense then as well, as I think those are from Black Panther with his vibranium claws, as that is the only thing in the Marvel universe I know of that could make those marks on a vibranium shield.

Feel free to bookmark this page to tell me how right I was after Avengers 4 releases, or to mock me if I turn out to be wrong.

GLITCHED was created by taking everything we love and putting into one place. It contains a little something for everyone be it your favourite comic book, what to binge on Netflix this weekend, or your annual first-person shooter. The idea that one can love all the cool things is not hard to comprehend, you just need to find a place for it. That place is GLITCHED..
