John Wick 5 (or John Wick: Chapter 5) has officially been announced with star Keanu Reeves returning for the titular role. The original crew behind the action franchise will all make a return too, including director and producer Chad Stahelski. No release window was offered.
Speaking on stage at CinemaCon, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Adam Fogelson confirmed that John Wick 5 is moving forward with Keanu Reeves, who is now 60-years old. Fogelson revealed that development on the fifth movie had begun, with Thunder producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee as well as franchise director and producer Chad Stahelski all on-board (Stahelski is also directing the live-action Ghost of Tsushima movie). A fifth movie makes sense considering John Wick: Chapter 4 brought in over $440 million at the box office, though it also raises a few questions.
We’ll be discussing spoilers for the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 from this point.
As many fans know, the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 wasn’t a happy one as John seemingly dies. Well, at least that’s what appears to happen. Winston (played by Ian McShane) even visits John’s gravestone next to his wife. The problem is, John’s death was never outright shown in the movie. We simply saw him collapse to the floor, leaving the possibility open that he might’ve survived his ordeal at the end of the movie and now lives in secret.
It wouldn’t exactly be the first time that John has cheated death. At the end of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, he is shot several times and plummets to the ground from the rooftop of the Continental, only to be rescued by the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne).
John Wick 5 will seemingly continue the same storyline, so it will be interesting to see which direction it takes now that John is alive and well. It surely won’t be pleasant news for the criminal underworld.
