Joker 2, or otherwise officially titled Joker: Folie a Deux, has released its first poster showing Arthur Fleck with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn in a dance. Warner Bros Pictures has also confirmed that the movie’s first trailer will arrive next week on 9 April ahead of its release later this year.
The tag for Joker 2 seems to be “the world is a stage”, adding to the previous rumours that the sequel would incorporate musical elements in it. Todd Phillips, who directed 2019’s critically acclaimed Joker, will return for Folie a Deux. It once again stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck or the Clown Prince of Gotham, joined by newcomer Lady Gaga who will play Harley Quinn. It takes place in its own isolated universe separate from Matt Reeves’ The Batman or the DCU Batman, as far as we know.
Variety recently reported that the Joker sequel will feature around 15 “reinterpretations” of existing popular songs, though it’s understood that it might feature original music as well.

A report from back in February claimed that Joker 2‘s budget was somewhere around $200 million, which is significantly more than the first movie’s $60 million budget. Considering that the first movie also made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office – a world record for an R-rated comic book movie – it makes sense that Warner Bros Pictures would give the sequel a bigger budget, especially with the mainstream pull of Lady Gaga joining the cast.
In related news, Warner Bros has delayed the release of The Batman Part II by a year from October 2025 to October 2026. No reason was given for the delay, though it might have something to do with James Gunn’s reinvention of the DC cinematic universe that’s set to kick off next year with Superman: Legacy.
